Hastings and Rye MP Michael Foster has called for new financial products and services to be made available from the Post Office.
The Government is currently running a consultation to canvass peoples views on what new services could be made available from the Post Office. Early ideas include new Post Office Current Accounts and Business Accounts.
Michael Foster MP said:
“Post Offices are a great British institution that has been part of our communities for over three hundred years.
“I know how deeply people in Hastings and Rye care about the future of our Post Offices. At a time when some banks and financial services companies are seeking to reduce face to face contact with customers, the Post Office stands out. It is ideally placed to bring banking services back to the heart of people’s communities.
“So I want to see more financial services at the Post Office. It will give local people access to a full range of banking products at an institution we trust and value and secure the future of this national institution.
“I want to hear your views on this. I will be writing to as many people in as possible, but if you want to get in touch about this please email me at mp@1066.net or write to me at 84 Bohemia Road, St Leonards, TN37 6RN.
“If you would like to look at the consultation it is easily accessible online www.bis.gov.uk/postofficebanking. If you do not have internet access a copy can be ordered by calling the BIS Publications Orderline 0845 015 0010 (Minicom: 0845 015 0030). I would urge you to respond to the consultation – if the Post Office is to be fit for purpose local people must have their say.”
